I'm Riding For

Jacob, Asher, & Branson

Jacob, Asher, & Branson

This September's ride is dedicated to 3 absolutely AMAZING young men. Jacob, diagnosed July, 2024, at age 11, with Fibrolamellar Carcinoma (variant of Hepatocellular Carcinoma), a very rare, aggressive primary liver cancer, primarily affecting adolescents with healthy livers, with a tendency to travel to other parts of the body. Jacob was a 6th grader with a gentle heart & goofy personality. He had a love for science & experiments, enjoyed the school's aftercare program, he called "his fun time". He loved playing video games on his PS5 & Nintendo Switch, lots of outdoor sports, but, most of all, he loved spending time with his friends. Jacob had a heart of gold & loved his parents & sisters with everything he had. Jacob lost his battle with cancer on May 8, 2025, just shy of his 12th birthday. The community, families, & friends threw a FANTASTIC "Paint the Town Green" event to celebrate his life. He may have lost his battle, but his legacy to fight Kids' Cancer, until no other child has to fight it, lives on. Asher, Jacob's friend, was diagnosed with FLHCC in his liver October 24, 2023 at age 12. Doctors took 46% of his liver but found that it had also spread to his lungs. Asher had a relapse in November, 2023. It was found in his bones & knee. Doctors have replaced his femur and one of his knees, with a chemotherapy regimen for 2 years. Asher has such a kind soul, is, actually, "thankful" HE is the one, & not his parents or sisters, dealing with this cancer! He is an adventurous foodie, loves to play on his Xbox, & a real cat lover. He's a class act, is not one to complain. Asher plans on being THE ONE to defeat this cancer. His goal? In his own words..."To LIVE!" See "Branson's Brave Battle" on FB to see the journey that he, very recently, lost his battle. These boys, & all children with cancer, are the reason I ride, & will continue to ride, until a cure for Kids' Cancer has been found! Let's Kick Cancer's Butt!! WE RIDE; WITH PRIDE!!

My Story

25 Aug 2026

My Great Cycle Challenge started about 2 yrs after becoming permanently disabled after an ankle fracture. While healing, I developed a severe blood clot in that left leg, which travelled up the leg, past my waist, nearly to my lungs. 6 days in ICU, then home with 2x/day for months of injections & the clot, finally, dissolved. Now, I'm left with RSD/CRPS, the worst pain condition known to exist. Now, thanks to GCC, I can ride, like in PT, and not just donate!

This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge, for their, & my, 12th year, in order to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the U S.. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, & sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids & support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments & find a cure for childhood cancer.

This year, I'm riding for an extraordinary young man named Asher who is fighting a very rare form of children's liver cancer. I'm, also, riding in memory of 2 other young men, and friends of Asher's, named Jacob & Branson; each with very different stories, yet, they share(d) the same thing... Kid's Cancer.

Jacob & Asher's stories I have, highlighted in my Tribute section below. To hear about Branson's story, who just lost his battle, please go to his FB page "Branson's Brave Battle". All 3 of these young men have been incredible throughout their battles, & we pray for each of them, daily, along with ALL children who have been battling/fighting, when they should be living their lives!

Please support me by making a donation to help give kids who have, or have had, Kid's Cancer to have the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

With sincere thanks,

Roberta/Berta/Bobbi/Bertie/Big Bird/....😁
